    IE11 fails install, error 0x80070643

    Hello,

First post here but have been using this forum as a resource to troubleshoot many problems in the past, thank you!

I have done a search but could not find anything for IE11 install problems helpful. There were similar posts for IE10 install errors but none of the solutions seem to apply here.

I am unable to install IE11 either with Windows Update or manually.

Windows Update returns IE11 failed Code 9C59 message.
Manual install returns failed to finish install message.
Event log: error 0x80070643 IE11 for Windows 7 for x64-based system.
sfc/scannow: Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity validations.
    chkdsk OK
Disk clean up and tried resetting IE10 with no effect.

    System: Win 7 Pro SP1, x64
IE10 runs normally. No other browsers installed.
I believe all the pre-requisite updates for IE11 have been installed.
AVG 2014 was disabled during attempted install.
    No other adware/malware programs installed.

I am fresh out of ideas hope one of the experts here will be able to help.

Thanks again for this great forum resource and any assistance!

    Mark

    Thanks NoelDP,

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the Windows 7 SURT was completed before the attempted install.
Here's a copy of my CBS log file. I will be happy to provide any additional info that you think would be helpful.

I need the CheckSUR log as well, please :)
There are a number of severe errors in the CBS.log.
    Code:
     Line 3012: 2013-12-08 09:32:49, Error CSI 00000010@2013/12/8:14:32:49.325 (F) d:\win7sp1_gdr\base\wcp\componentstore\csd_winners.cpp(935): Error STATUS_SXS_TRANSACTION_CLOSURE_INCOMPLETE originated in function OriginateManifestsMissingError expression: (null)

    ...are the first set.

This appears to arise from the uninstall of IE10.

    These also appear.
    Code:

Let's see what the CheckSUR has to say, but we may need to do a little surgery

I thought the CBS file looked a bit nasty!

Here's the CheckSUR file. No errors!

    Thanks

OK, then - let's see what we can do with the errors in the CBS.log...

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    WINMGMT /verifyrepository

If it says it's coherent ONLY - then run the following command

    WINMGMT /resetrepository

If it says anything else, post back with details before doing anything else.

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Ok, it says it's "consistent" not "coherent" Is that the same? I didn't run the second command yet.

Sorry - I was trying to do it from memory... yes that's fine. carry on with the second command, then reboot after about 10 minutes.

After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command...

    mofcomp.exe wmi.mof

reboot again, and test Windows update

then run another SFC /SCANNOW and post the new CBS.log

Ran into a little snag with running WINMGMT /resetrepository.
Not sure what service it is referring to.

    C:\Windows\system32>WINMGMT /resetrepository
