    activation code

Is it possible to retrieve the Windows activation code for a laptop/PC ?

I am about to clean re-install Win7 x32 Home Premium onto a laptop.

Or would I have to contact MS to get a fresh activation code. ?

    Thank you :)

Check this link. You might get the answer to your question..

    This point is important.

If you need to install Windows 7 but you still can't find your Windows 7 product key, even with a product key finder, you have two choices.

You can either request a replacement product key from Microsoft or you can purchase a brand new copy of Windows 7 from TigerDirect, NewEgg, or some other retailer.

Requesting a replacement Windows 7 product key is going to be cheaper but if that doesn't work out, you may in fact have to buy a new copy of Windows.

Hi "archer", thank you for your response, :)

Your link is for "Product Key" recovery, not activation code recovery.

I have a script file to recover (and have done so already) the PRODUCT KEY.
The laptop is OEM and there is no disc.
I plan on using ISO file to to clean install and hopefully use the same "product key" (not product ID),
and use the existing activation code to finish the job.
There have been no hardware changes, so I cannot see how my approach would not work (I hope)
Your link states that recovering the product key can take 15 minutes.
My script file takes less than 15 seconds.
The result is displayed on a MsgBox and Ctrl+C copies the entire contents of the MsgBox.
No risk of errors when writing down monster length strings.
What I want to know is there a "tool" (or script) to recover the existing ACTIVATION code ?
I know the activation code is unique to the product key (and that they are not one in the same)

    Thanks again :)

Please post the LAST FIVE characters of the Product Key you found with your recovery script - it is enough for us to be able to tell if it's going to work with a retail/ISO disk or not.

Thanks Golden and NoelDP for your help :)

Last 5 characters of Product Key:- W8DQG

I would like to re-install the OS without all the manufacturer's extra features.
Do you need the Product ID ?

I am starting to suspect "Activation Code" cannot be retrieved. ?
... and that I will have to contact MS for an activation code -- via web or phone.

That Key is the Toshiba OEM_SLP Key - and will ONLY work with the Toshiba Recovery media on a Toshiba machine.

Do you not have a COA sticker on the machine? This gives your personal Product Key, and can be used with retail/ISO media.

...and no - if you mean what I think you do, the activation code is generated at the time, and not 'stored' as such - and therefore is not recoverable.

    Thanks Noel,

Yes there is a sticker on base of the laptop
Product Key: last 5 characters are 4V3T8

...and no - if you mean what I think you do, the activation code is generated at the time, and not 'stored' as such - and therefore is not recoverable.
My question post is gone, was there something wrong with/about "that" link ?

    That's your personal Key.

You can use that code with the retail/ISO disk to do an install with no problems - you may need to activate by phone, but often it will activate happily over the internet.

(what link? - I can see no more than you?)
