I did a quick attempt at a repair install just now and it failed. I'm going to reboot and try again but if it fails again I'll report back with the info.

Any idea on ways to clean the registry without a repair install?

'It failed' - not very informative.
What error message did you get? At what point did it fail?

Read and follow the instructions here.... Repair Install

Hi Noel,
Yeah sorry for the lack of detail in that post. I wanted to run it again a couple times to be sure.

In the procedure you posted, the install is failing at step #13. More specifically, the installation copies over the Windows files (about 2.8 GB I believe) and then it moves on to "Gathering files, settings, and programs" and it stays at 0% for about 10 seconds and then the installation fails with the error message I have attached to this post.

I rebooted and retried the installation 3 times. Same result each time.

This is usually caused by access problems so far as I know - but it's not my area of expertise.

I'm going to ask for assistance.
In the meantime, please run a full CHKDSK scan, and post the results...

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

CHKDSK C: /R

and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, press Enter, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -

After the reboot, open Event Viewer, and find the entries for

Log: Windows Logs > Application
Source: Wininit

This should expose the full results of the CHKDSK scan - double-click on it and click on the Copy button - post the entire copy to your reply.

Just my 2 Euro cents, must not be the issue in this case but anyway: OP's Disk Management shows a partition called Data. This made me wondering if the OP has relocated at least some of the User Profile folders, putting for instance Documents in another partition than C: or maybe even sysprepped full Users folder to another partition.

If this is the case, the repair install wont work. When in-place upgrading (what repair install is), it refuses to work if any of the system folders is located on another drive than C:. The folders must first be relocated back to C:.

Indeed I have done this. My documents folder is definitely moved to a different drive. I will run the full CHDSK and work on moving all original user folders back to the C drive and then repeating the repair install.

Hmm - the sort of errors there don't normally lead to the errors we're seeing, in my experience (but they could do so)
Having said that, please reboot, and run another SFC scan - then reboot again and post the CBS.log
