Multiple .NETFX Updates Failed: Error Code 643

Alright, First of all thanks to those who at least read this.
I'll also start by saying this isn't my first attempt at resolving this. The first try left me beaten, broken, bruised and I gave up.

So lets recap there. About 6 months ago, I attempted to install a .NETFX update, believe it was 4.5. I received error code 643. I let it go for a week or two until a program required the update. So I tried several "fixes" from Microsoft to resolve. The final attempt being to uninstall ALL of .NETFX and manually re-install each one individually. I waited a few more days for that one. Finally went to give it a go. I made a list of the packages I needed to re-install, and then used the cleanup tool to remove them all. Finished the uninstall and then restarted.

Reboot...Attempt a manual install....NETFX 1.0 cannot be installed error code 643. I tried, and tried, and tried, and tried, but nothing. Finally, I just gave up. I still use the computer everyday, but the errors are piling up. Little things not working anymore, and performance has taken a pretty major hit.

The only resolve I could find if the previous steps didn't work is to format and install. ...That's not really an option. My hard drives are sorted, and there's pieces all over. There's well over 100 applications that I CONSISTENTLY use, and many are LARGE and would take DAYS o re-install. I didn't then, nor do I now have the time to do that.

I realize my options are cut really short at this point, but I'm wondering what all my options are. I need the registry to stay...mostly..in tact. I thought about upgrading to windows 8 (which I'd rather not do) in hopes it would resolve it, but I'm really not an 8 fan. Not hating for those that do, but I like 7. The other option I heard was an overlay install. Essentially using the install disc to "upgrade" over the OS. I like this option but it seems certain information doesn't transfer, though I haven't clearly understood what does, and what doesn't get transferred. The last 2 options are slim, Somehow figure out how to fix the update process, or magically hope start up repair will resolve.

Thanks to anyone who read this wall of text, and thanks in advance if anyone responds. I love my computer, almost to a crazy level, but I'm almost to a point of unplugging it and walking away. I hope someone has an answer. Has anyone else had similar issues? Were you able to resolve it?

I could include my windows log files, but some are miles long from other issues. WU gaves the same error for all failed updates. Error Code 643

SURT has been stuck at around 80% for "Installing Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) (update 1 of 1)... "

I'll post a fix protocol for them later today - in the meantime, it may be a good idea to run CheckSUR and see if that produces any more results...

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply

    Thanks for your help.
As far as the CheckSUR tool, it did finally finish with KB947821. I let it run overnight, rebooted, and attempted an update using windows update again. Same failed updates. I tried to reopen CheckSUR again, but it said "data is invalid". So I redownloaded it. When I reopened it, it said update KB947821 is available, and now its installing it again. Not sure what the deal is there.

Once it installs the update again, Ill upload the log, looks like it wiped it when I reopened the SURTool.

    CheckSUR.log
    Code:

Interesting results from the CheckSURPersist file - they would seem to indicate major corruption of an unknown form - but the later CheckSUR.log file indicates that all is well.

    I've uploaded a file - cjkaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\cjkaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\cjkaa
    or
    DIR E:\cjkaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\cjkaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g.XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt.

then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your SkyDrive Public folder, and post a new link.

    I tried to do the steps listed, but it appears i dont have a "Repair my computer" option. The ones listed I can remember were;
    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt

    Boot Logging
and something about disabling driver signing

I tried safe mode with command prompt, but I got an error saying winsxs doesn't exist (even though I could navigate to the folder using cd windows\winsxs)

Should I try loading from the install disc? I believe that has a repair option. I know its supposed to be here, not sure why its not unless I am missing the restore partition.

So update on that last comment.
My restore drive showed up in the OS.
Now it lists the "System Reserved" drive in My computer. Not sure what caused it, but i guess that means its for sure there...

Update to that update, noticed the System Reserved is missing the needed "Recovery" folder. Not sure where it went, but will try the above steps using repair with the install CD.

So I ran from install disc, used command prompt, and was able to complete those steps.
    SkyDrive Link: https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resi...0F9B3F8A%21167

Also, not sure if its worth noting, but the System Reserve drive is gone again, and before I did xcopy I tried
    Code:
    sfc /scannow /offbootdir=G:\ /offbwindir=G:\Windows
As per another thread mentioned. It scanned clean, and gave pretty much the same message as before, so I went ahead and did the XCOPY. After that I rebooted as you said, ran SFC, and uploaded the logs.

The SFC data shows exactly the same pattern of fixed/unfixed problems as previously.
I suspect that you may have malware present, of some description.

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM PRO' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

    Delete everything it finds

Done, found a few objects related to some IE toolbar that I never noticed. Probably because I only use IE when Chrome and FF fails me. Removed them as you said, and rebooted.

Running a second scan now, then I'll retry the steps listed earlier and see if it has any effect.

Update: Finished second scan - returned clean
Booted to Repair, ran /scannow, then xcopied the files. rebooted, reran SFC and uploaded zip to skydrive

It still has the same errors
It seems as if you may not be copying the files to the proper location.
It's either that, or I gave you the wrong files. :)
I'll check later! have to get to work now.

It's unusual for the system drive to come up as G: in the RE - but not impossible.
How many hard drives are there in your system? How many partitions in each? (Just a little concerned that you may be copying to the wrong folder!) are you dual-booting in any way?
