Windows 7: IE11 fails install, error 0x80070643

Is it ok to proceed ?

That's OK - it may simply be that redirection isn't properly functional (I get the same response in my default install)... try this command, instead...

mofcomp.exe wbem\wmi.mof

That command worked fine.

Same error from Windows Update after repeat install attempt.

The Transaction errors are still present
Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\


reboot after a few minutes, and try Windows updates again.

wait a few minutes, then reboot and try Windows Update again.

I still think there should be some signs of this problem in the CheckSUR - please run the tool again, and see if it reports anything thing time.

I saw those errors when I reviewed the CBS file but frankly this is beyond my knowledge level at this point. Are these errors due to a damaged registry or missing IE10 files?

I reran the CheckSUR and it still looks ok.

I suspect that it's a little of both -
I was hoping that CheckSUR would give me somewhere to look, because I'm also in Terra Incognita on this

CheckSUR having come back clean again, I'm going to have to have a look at part of your registry and see if I can make any sense out of what's (not?) there.


I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or SkyDrive) and post a link.

I am able to install all curent updates - including .NET packages - except for either IE10 or IE11. It's a homebuilt box. Checked for rootkits/infections, all clean. Running sfc /scannow tells me that there is a reboot pending and that I should try running it again after the system is restarted....
