IE10 and now IE11 fail to install. Prereq KB2670838 not applicable

Hi,

I have tried via the Microsoft forums and got no where.

Initially I tried to install IE10, but it keeps failing as pre-requisite KB2670838 will not install. On trying the standalone installer it comes back saying 'This update is not applicable to your computer'.

Now the same is happening with IE11.

I know there were some issues with some Intel/ATI hybrid systems, but had not seen anything on Intel/Nvidia hybrids.

I have run the System Readiness Tool and in the CheckSUR.log I get various CBS MUM Corrupt 0x800F0900 and CBS Catalog Corrupt 0x800B0100 errors. A zipped copy is attached, from the last time I ran it.

All other updates appear to still be installing fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having problems here
ALL the files involved are the base files for IE10.
However, some of the filenames are in a very strange format - as if someone has been attempting manual fixes - which is going to make life very difficult.

Have you been using any form of Registry Cleaner or Optimizer??
If so, please use whatever UNDO mechanism it has, to undo changes made - then uninstall it.

Please attempt a System Restore back to a time things worked.
Also please post a link to your earlier threads in the MS forums - I suspect that they have managed to make a bad situation worse.

Hi Noel,

Not used any registry cleaners, don't believe them to do any good at all. I have only just followed the suggestions here; most of which were to try the System Readiness tool and manual install of the relevant updates by downloading and installing the msi files.

Ye gods! - that's from March!
There's not a lot there to complain about - nothing suggested should have caused the problems you're seeing.

I can really only suggest a repair install. The discrepancies I'm seeing are not going to be solvable by manual means.

Hi Noel,

Thanks for giving it a look over. I had a feeling it was going that way.

Ho hum, will just have to prise it out of the other-half's hands and do a full rebuild, given that it only came with recovery image partition and recovery image discs, not a proper Win 7 installation disc.

Have a good Christmas.
