The 80070002 error is a 'file not found' one -
this seems to relate to this error here...
    Code:

Please open an elevated Command prompt, and run the following commands..

    ICACLS C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\fd0c7235ea199c91f68801d3ffaa13a5

    post the results...

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

It does at least explain why the update can't find it :)

    Let's see if this helps...

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

    NET STOP CRYPTSVC
    REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
    NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

Note that this may delete your Update History - but all updates will remain installed, and can be viewed in the Installed Updates listing.

Interesting - have you EVER had either McAfee, Norton or Avast software installed on this machine?
    This error...
    Code:
    Licensing Data-->
CScript Error: Can't find script engine "VBScript" for script "C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs".
is usually caused by incomplete uninstalls of anti-virus software which has redirected scripting through its own checkers before passing back to the OS.

https://www.sevenforums.com/windows-u...-solution.html refers - post back with details if the suggestions there fail to clear that error from the MGADiag report.

It's quite possible that this may relate to your SP1 problems (note to self: must add to database!), as scripting is frequently involved in SP installs.

This is not my laptop, it's my friend's...he asked me to sort out another problem (couldn't log on to windows as logon had a corrupt profile). It looks like he had Mcafee installed but now uses AVG.

I have tried to use the regfix.reg file but it wouldn't import. I have just run this command
    reg query HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11cf-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}\InprocServer32

Here are the results but i'm unsure what i need to do next!

This should be fairly easy to fix...

Download the McAfee removal tool from:

    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Click Save, and save the file to a folder on your computer.
Navigate to the folder where you saved the file.
right-click on MCPR.exe and select 'Run as Administrator' to run the removal tool.

    when complete, reboot.

After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    NETSH WINSOCK RESET

You'll be advised to reboot - do so.
    then post another MGADiag report.
