    Windows update shutdown time

I finished building a new computer last night and have been using it without problems until now. I clicked shut down for the computer to install windows updates, 134 of them, and it has been sitting with "Shutting down..." and the blue spinning ring next to it for maybe an hour. This seems unusual to me, specially with a ssd and 6Gb/s connections. Should it be taking this long?

    Specs:
    ASUS Z87-A
    i5 4670k - Coolermaster T4
    ASUS R9 270x TOP
    8GB G. Skill
    Intel 120GB 330 series ssd
    500 GB WD Blue
    Corsair 600 watt

Considering that you have an SSD and newer hardware, it shouldn't take that long. You can turn off the computer and reboot it at this point.

I just had almost the exact same problem. I just got done reinstalling Windows 7 and it went through the process of installing 137 Windows Updates and when I went to restart it to complete the installation, it would hang at the shutting down screen. I also have an SSD and 6gb of ram. I got tired of waiting on it so I just restarted it manually, so far no problems that I can see.

Do you have any hard drive activity lights? If so, see if there are blinking while it is trying to shut down.
