recent update has broken programs

Hello,

I'm not certain this is the correct forum to post in, as my problem is not that I can't update, but rather that a recent update has broken a couple of critical programs that I must be able to run.

My question is, how can I identify which update might be responsible? I downgraded the IE11 update to IE10, but that wasn't it, and I don't have a clue where to look next.

The two programs that won't run are:
OTTER (a tax reporting system) and
GIS (a geographic information system tool)

The error I get with both programs is:
Error: 432; Description: File name or class name not found during Automation operation.
Additionally, GIS gives this error next, in a "Critical DB Error" box:
Error connecting to database:
-2147217843 Authentication failed.

Have you tried posting in the programs' own forums?
They are much more likely to have relevant experience than we are.

Really, we can only be reasonably certain to fix problems with Windows - or if one of our members is lucky(?) enough to have met the same problem.

Have you reinstalled OTTER following the instructions here?

I can't help with the GIS program, as GIS is too generic a term - for any hope of some help, more details would be required (developer, etc)

I've spoken with OTTER tech support and we downloaded and updated the program. We also uninstalled and re-installed, but same message persists.

GIS is PCMaps. I don't know much more about it except it's commonly used for land use purposes.

These are the two programs I have determined are broken, but there may be more. That is why I was targeting Windows updates - these programs were fine the last time I used them, and the only thing that has changed is the updates.

OK - lets's have a look at the state of the update system and the file system then...

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data - please also upload the C:\Windows\Windowsupdate.log file.

Error: 432

There are no Windows Update error codes to include in this post.

The required CBS.zip file is 8.28 MB, which slightly exceeds the maximum file size. How shall I proceed?

There are no errors in the SFC scan, and no significant errors in the background CBS.log file

Please post your CheckSUR log and CheckSUR.log files - they may have something.

CheckSUR took a pretty long time to come back with a 'all clear' response - but that could be for a number of reasons.

The problem I have is that I have no realistic way to test OTTER - and I have no GPS with which to link your GIS program.

I'll ask around and see if anyone else can help.
Don't run away!
