Just for the record, here's the apparent failure from the CBSPersist file.

I couldn't see any signs that you'd done a CheckSUR scan?

No I did not run a CheckSUR scan. I did not notice anything telling me to run that scan. So what does that failure tell you?

Doesn't really matter now anyways, I went ahead and did a clean install of Windows 7. So far I had one issue with Windows updates. It installed 137 updates and I went to restart it and it went through the process of configuring the updates. Right after it configured the updates, it said shutting down like it was going to restart it but it never did do anything. I probably let it sit there for a hour or more seeing if it would ever restart but it didn't. So I hit the restart button and it went ahead and finished configuring the updates. So far everything seems to be ok, it has installed several more updates since then.

What are you supposed to do if it hangs during a Windows update restart? What about when it is in the middle of an update installation?

Normally when I reinstall Windows, I will go ahead and install programs while Windows installs the updates and never really had an issue until this past time which maybe because I shut it down in the middle on an install. This time, I am going to wait until all the updates are installed before I install any programs. I did install antivirus programs but nothing else.

I am not sure if this would cause an issue with Windows update, but I have some programs that are installed to the second drive, mainly games and photoshop. Would those programs cause any issues?

Another question about Windows updates, right now there is no more important updates. But there are 8 optional updates. Some of those are drivers, antivirus updates and programs like Bing. There are a few updates for Windows 7 x64. Should I install the updates for Windows 7 x64? Why are they optional?

    Thanks for your help.

Generally if the shutdown fails to do so, then look at the hard drive activity light (if there is one) and check for any activity there - if there's none at all for at least a minute, then I reckon it's safe to switch off. If there's a repetitive pattern to the blinking, but mostly it's off, then it's a little risky, but usually ends up OK - but I follow it immediately with another shutdown/restart to embed anything that may not have processed fully.

Then things get more risky with the amount of disk activity :)

Good luck with the new install!

    .... Optional Updates -
    I always hide Bing :)
I'd install the Windows updates - they are probably compatibility updates, which may ease installation and running of older programs.
Drivers - up to you, but may be worth having if you have any problems with the ones already installed. Check your manufacturer's website first, though - they may have more recent ones than WU does.
If by 'AV updates' you mean MSE ones, then MSE has its own installation routine for updates, and the one in WU is really just to let you know - I install them anyhow.
Silverlight - debatable whether you have any need for it, as it's not a very popular programming tool, and MS has basically canned it, as I understand it. Don't install it unless you have a need for it.

Well I do not have a hard drive activity light. My case does not have that option.

So far, everything seems to be doing okay. I think all the updates have been installed.

Do you know anything about the optional updates? I have a few that are called Update for Windows 7 x64, should I go about installing those or not worry about them? How does Windows know what to leave unchecked? I had a few important that were left unchecked as well. Since they are unchecked, does that mean I do not need them at all. Would I be hurting anything by installed them?

You must have posted while I was typing my post. Anyways, I will go ahead and install the updates not worry about the rest of the updates.

One other question, do you see any issues with installing programs on a second drive? Programs like antivirus programs and browsers I install onto the main drive. But programs like Microsoft Office(Office 2013 did not give me an option where to install it) I usually install onto the second drive.

There's really no benefit to installing programs onto another drive - and if the 'other drive' is actually a partition on the same disk drive as Windows then there are very good reasons not to as it increases the wear on the drive head, and slows things down.
If your Windows drive goes belly-up you have to reinstall both anyhow.
I just keep the Windows drive big enough to hold Windows and the programs, and move data off into another partition/drive.

The second drive is an actual hard drive and not a partition on the same drive as Windows.

One reason I did this is my Windows drive is an SSD drive and always thought it was better to keep as much free space on an SSD drive as possible. I mainly install stuff like games like BF3, and other stuff like Photoshop, Office, etc on the second drive. Stuff like antivirus programs I keep on the main drive.
