Windows 7 Ultimate suddenly not genuine after 8months of use.

    Hello.
I recently received the "Windows 7 Build 7601" message. Like others, my screen is black with the exception of the shortcut icons. But, I can still access programs. The PC was custom built last February and was validated by windows when build was completed. This problem only surfaced after I replaced a faulty motherboard.

This is an MSDN licence. which can never be sold. Where did you acquire the installation?

    MSDN Subscription Licensing

Unfortunately you were conned. Its common for individuals to have a bulk MSDN subscription and then attempt to sell (illegally) individual licences on ebay and the such. Eventually, these will be registered and deactivated by Microsoft, which is what appears to have happened in your situation.

The only re-course you have is to purchase a genuine version of Windows 7. Its extremely unlikely you can return the product back to the seller and get your money back.
