no problem - and that one's normal as well.
Let me check that I understand the problem correctly.
Here's the sequence as I understand it...
1) Print works OK first time.
2) an attempt to print a second document will fail with a Spooler Service error
3a) restarting the Spooler service allows all queued documents to print
3b) Rebooting the computer allows all queued documents to print
3c) in either 3a or 3b, after the queued documents have finished printing, attempts to print new documents fail with a spooler error.
Have I got that right?
Please list all currently installed printers
Please also list all previously-installed printers
(some manufacturers have very bad names for their driver-writing capabilities - and some have different reps for their removal capabilities!)
Which version of Word are you using? (also is it the Standalone, or as part of Office?)
Does this happen with other applications also? - what about Notepad? (it's about the simplest program that can use a printer!)
No. The printing of the whole queue happened just one time.
What now happens is
1) First attempt to print file works - notepad/word
2) 2nd print attempt hangs the program
3) If I a) Stop the print spooler in Services
b) restart it in Services
4) I can now print again
I haven't checked whether any queue of unprinted docs. builds up - I don't think so.
The prob. now is I can only print one time and must then apply the above "manual fix".
Well, NoelDP, many thanks for being so helpful. You solved my authentication problems, and solved most of the print problem. Probably some stupid alteration of the registry.
I'm v.grateful for the huge labour you've put in, so if I can donate to the forum or something, please link me. Or perhaps we can do something by PM.
Many thanks again
Links for donations should be somewhere visible - I have to admit that I've never looked :) (my donations are technical rather than financial)
I haven't given up yet! - just been a little pre-occupied in the 'real world'
Please list all installed printers in the Devices and Printers list
Please also open Device Manager, and click on View - select 'Show Hidden Devices' - does anything show as having problems?
Perhaps this is a problem?
Printers & Faxes incl. 4 -
Fax
Ms XPS Doc. Writer
Samsung ML-2160 [default printer on this pc]
Samsung ML-2160 [ on other networked pc]
[I installed the same printer on both computers - has that confused the system?]
Device Manager [showing hidden devices] shows no problem I can see - but I don't know how that would show up.
