    Windows Update validation error

When I run the Windows Update with Windows 7, I'm getting an error that says "You may be victim of software counterfeiting". I click "Go online and resolve now". I then get error number 0x80080101, saying it is unable to determine whether my copy of Windows is genuine.

    Any ideas?

Did you get your key when you downloaded the beta from Microsoft.

Yes, and I've been using it just fine for the past week. I've run the Windows Update before and it has worked. It just started doing this.

Have you done anything like tweaks or hacks or have programs that do?

No, the only thing I have installed is Office 2007 and AVG. They are both legit.

    Validation Error

I also had the problem with the validation error. I did a little research and found out that the date and time if messed up will cause an error. The error code was 0x80072F8F. This might also help with your case.

What I needed to do was go to Start, Run, Then typed in timedate.cpl then went to the Internet Time tab and Clicked the little bar that says Change Settings. Then a box pops up and click Update Now then okay it. After that I went back to Start, then right clicked on Computer. Selected Properties then attempted to register it and it worked.

Hope this same method works for you.
