    IE10 Update Failed - Error 9C48


    Hello all. I've been having a similar problem to what has been addressed here already and I was hoping that I could get some help.

    I am running IE10 on Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) and haven't really been having any problems except that Windows keeps trying to update to IE10 and when I let the update run it fails with error code 9C48.

    I think the update keeps coming back because (1) in Windows Features it only shows IE9 and (2) in the installed updates it only shows IE9. I've tried uninstalling IE10, but there is nowhere to execute an uninstall command (no version of IE shows up in the Remove Programs menu in Control Panel).

    I would like for the auto update to go away because these three features are synched (auto update, windows features and installed updates) rather than hiding the update and running the IE Update Blocker.

    I have attached the CBS log and a screenshot of the error.

    Both CheckSUR and SFC are free of problems - so we'll have to look elsewhere.

    It may be a case of attempting to rip IE10 out by the roots...
    command line uninstall IE10 on W7 may help with that.

    Please post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file and all IE*.log files

    Thanks for looking at this. I opened up the IE10.log file and it might be a case of the "update" trying to install an older version than I already have. See attached zip.

    Also, I tried the command line uninstall yesterday and it removed the files/keys, but IE10 was still installed.

    Haven't yet tried the wusa.exe method because I saw the IE10.log file today. Should I still try it?

    I am also curious why IE10 isn't registered in Windows Features or shown as an installed update.

    The errors in the windowsupdate log are confusing - IE11 has installed successfully the same number of times that IE10 has failed to install (at least daily since 9th Jan!)
    I think your only chance of getting back on an even keel is a repair install.

    - and they should help you get through it (it's not as difficult as it looks!)

    Thanks that is very odd because I never had IE11 on this machine.

    Well I took your advice and did a repair install (you were right, not very difficult) and after several updates, successfully have IE11 and no more spurious updates.

I got error code 9c48 when trying to install the important update for IE9. Not only has the update failed, but it has caused IE9 to be inoperable, resulting in NO browser. I can't seem to find any solution. Please help.
