Build 7601-Windows will not start to carry out diagnostics.

Hi,
A short foreword first...
Over the weekend (25-26 Jan)I installed a licensed copy of windows 7 on a newly partitioned drive, (all formatted etc), I normally use win 8.1 but I was experiencing problems with an application and I knew it worked on '7', so I wanted to revert back just solely for this application? Everything has been going fine this week, yes I have received the normal reminders, but I wanted to assess first before activation. As I need more space on the drive I expanded it by 150G this morning. When booting up, I am presented with the normal 'starting windows' followed by 'Logging in' and then 'Preparing your desktop'? after about 2 minutes a blank light blue screen comes up with the message 'Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine' in the bottom right hand corner. I am unable to proceed further from here with any diagnostic tool as windows will not start. I can open the 'Task Manger' (Ctrl+Alt+Del) but I'm not proficient enough to identify which task to open. I have also tried rebooting with the DVD and starting in 'Safe Mode'. I am grateful for any assistance you can provide and I apologise if I have not observed the proper rules.
Regards

Jim

Okay, let's try another way, the application I'm referring to is Flight Simulator X, if it isn't possible to restart windows, would I be successful in copying all of the application and add-on's 'en-bloc' ( this drive is only used for FSX!) to another drive, format this drive I've got the problem with and reinstall windows again, including the activation key and then install the other previously saved files? would they work, or am I going to have to reinstall everything again? something to ponder, that means another stressful week!!
Thanks for you thoughts anyway
Jim

A non-genuine status of itself doesn't prevent access to the desktop, so it's a side-effect of other problems.

Can you boot OK to Safe Mode?

If so, try running SFC from there, and also try a clean boot - How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Hi, and thank you very much for replying. I think you are correct, yes, I could start in Safe Mode but it went to a black screen with the same message...
I was getting worried with receiving no replies, so I took the situation into my own hands and reinstalled, I copied everything first then deleted the partition, formatted it twice and then reinstalled my copy of windows 7, I must have used this copy on my laptops as reactivation was refused and I had to ring the robot to obtain a new number, all working ok now.
Thanks again for your advice and apologise for any inconvenience.

No problem - glad you're up and running again!

Good luck with the new install.
