Thanks for the help everyone. Lenovo was no help other than a format & reinstall option. I mentioned I was worried the issue could come back since the laptop has a new motherboard, but they acted like that shouldn't have caused it. I did get a product key from the proper department and it worked. They were a little disgruntled that we had to waste a product key for this, as was I, but it worked. They did let me know that the all the laptops should ship with a Win7 COA license, so looks like Lenovo dropped the ball on this laptop.

Thanks for the help.

Please post a new MGADiag log - we can then see what they've actually done.

NO laptop shipped with Windows 8 and a downgrade option ships with any kind of COA license - as Lenovo should be well aware.
The whole idea is to do away with such activation vulnerabilities (e.g. theft/counterfeiting) wherever possible. forcing activation through the OEM_SLP is the selected method - and most of the time it works well.

Interesting - they've given you an MAK Key!
This is a Volume License Key, and as far as I am aware, it's not actually legal to use it under these circumstances - but that's between MS and Lenovo, unless the Key gets out into the open in which case there will be a flood of complaints!
Be aware that it's likely that you will not be able to use this Key for any future reinstalls - and you'll have to go through the same rigmarole again.

I am very surprised that they didn't securely wipe the Key before letting you loose with the activated machine.

Thanks for the help. I'm just happy to be up and running. I did notice the Diag still says Invalid SLIC table, so maybe it was just a band aid, but the annoying 'not geniune' popup is gone, so I'm happy unless the issue comes back. Hopefully, I won't need to format and reinstall my OS before the end of my laptops life. I couldn't find an older BIOS that worked on my machine from Lenovo's support site, so I just applied a new one.

Until you do a reformat/reinstall it will always show as invalid (unless you get very lucky! ).
Even then the chances are that you'll have to beg a new key :-(
It's not so much a bandaid as a change of tack.
