Windows not genuine Error-COA sticker faded

    Hi everyone

I think that this is a popular error among win users. turned on the laptop to find not genuine message

I have used many key extractors to no avail.

The unfortunate thing is that my COA sticker is faded.

I have some registry backups, backup files, and toshiba hdd recovery files but i dont know if its possible to extract the key

have run malwarebytes in safemode to find monetizer and tarma PUPs

Please post an MGADiag report - without that, we're just guessing in a data-vacuum.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

    https://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Apart from the Windows problem - you also have a counterfeit installation of Office

The Windows problem is probably because you have reinstalled using retail media rather than the manufacturer's Recovery media. If you reinstall using the proper Recovery media, this also installs licenses which interact with the BIOS SLIC table and re-activate the installation at every boot. Using retail (or another manufacturer's) media means that the correct licenses aren't present, and the attempt to self-activate fails.

The normal solution is to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker - but you say that you are unable to read the Key there.

In such circumstances, the only things you can do are

    1) recreate the Licensing Store - in case it's a minor software problem causing the misread
    2) try updating the BIOS to the latest available Vista-compliant one, from the manufacturer's website (Unnecessary - the SLIC table looks fine here)
    3) Contact the manufacturer direct, and see if they can provide assistance to correct the SLIC table (again, unnecessary)
    4) a reformat and reinstall using the manufacturer's recovery media
    5) purchase a new license for Windows (or a new computer)

There *may* be an alternative solution though, if you are patient and persistent.
Attempt Telephone Activation, and speak to an operator - they will tell you that your current Key is blocked (they should then ask for confirmation of your Product Key). Explain to them your problem, that you need to change the Key to the one on your sticker, but that the sticker is unreadable (could they please supply a replacement Key?). Hopefully they will ask for documentary proof of the sticker, in the form of an email with a picture of the affected sticker - and you can proceed from there.
Sometimes it takes two or three calls before you get an operator who actually knows and uses this procedure - but I know that it can and does happen.

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
    net start sppsvc
    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report.

(Note: the Line 'CD %win......\SoftwareProtectionPlatform' is all on one line - it may be broken in the Forum listing)

It won't, unless you can enter the COA Key - the OEM_SLP Key doesn't allow telephone activation requests

    Hi again

I fixed it by hdd recovery but when I check for the key using belarc or licencecrawler it gives me the one that I saw before Ie not the oem sticker one. When I had entered it before it said the key was incorrect.

How can I find the sticker key now to prevent future problems

    Simply put - you can't.
The COA sticker is the ONLY record in the world of your personal Key.
Once that's vanished, you have extremely limited options. (see above)
