Why am I receiving Updates for Microsoft Office 2010?

    Hi All,

I am receiving a Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2687455) 32-Bit Edition to install from Windows Update.

Yet, I have installed Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007. Do I install this Update or Hide it?

Operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Service Pack 1.

    Thank you!

I get the same thing, have Office 2007, offered updates for Office 2010. I just let them install figuring MS doesn't know what they are doing.

There may be add-ons installed in Office 2007 which use parts of Office 2010 - it's these that require updates.

(Compatibility packs spring to mind - although I have to admit nothing else does :))

I was so intrigued by this that I installed Office 2007 into a VM - then updated it via Windows update to SP3 and updates that come after that. There was one tiny 2010 update (which I installed), but never a 2010 service pack offered.

I thought about the comparability pack thing too...
...but forgot by the time all of the updates completed :-(

I did find a few posts where others say that the pack is the cause of this offer.

It seems the Office 2010 updates apply to MS Access, which I didn't install.

You may have an Access runtime database installed?

This website may help explain it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Access

When it opens select item 4 from the menu or scroll down & you will a section on Access Runtime.
