SFC shows some interesting problems now...
    Code:

While CheckSUR is (very surprisingly) clear.

It looks to me like a case of bitflips in the registry -
I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

I've uploaded a file - jgwae.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive (it may take a while to complete uploading - I have a slow connection!)
Please download and save it to your desktop.
Right-click on the file and select Extract All, and save to the default destination (which should be a folder on the desktop)

Create a new System Restore point

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands.

    If EXIST C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.OLD1 DEL C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.OLD1
    REN C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS COMPONENTS.OLD1
    COPY %userprofile%\desktop\jgwae\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config

If you get an error with either command, STOP THERE - do not reboot! - post for instructions.

Assuming both commands go OK, reboot, and run another CheckSUR scan - post the new CheckSUR.log file.

CheckSUR is still clear - let's go for another SFC /SCANNOW and see if that throws any more wobblies at us, before trying a new tack.

The only SFC results there are from the earlier run

There are a lot of other serious errors in the log - but nothing whatever from SFC.

Did you actually run the scan? if not, please do so.
If you did, then we have some serious problems - and I'll have to research any possible fix.

I'm not sure how to deal with them other than by a repair install - which may be the easiest way anyhow.

    back later!
