    Update Fail: Code 8024200D KB2868725/KB2852386


    Discovered and issue with a Dell machine that turned out to be some bad sectors on th HDD that were found and repaired by seatools.
    Install of windows 7 was fresh prior to discovering the HDD errors, now it run fine, but widows update keep failing with the code: Code 8024200D
    on these two updates:
    KB2868725
    KB2852386

    Any ideas what is happening and how to resolve?

    KB2852386
    I keep getting an internal server error popup when trying to upload the .cbs.zip file

    500 - Internal server error.

    There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

    sfc /scannow run as admin Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations

    restarted system, changed file permissions on cbs folder away form read only, .zip ed it, still cannot upload, same error

    You need to copy the CBS folder to the desktop, then compress it - you should NOT mess with the folders permissions.

    Once compressed, if it's larger than 8MB, delete the oldest CBSPersist file and try again. Once it's less than 8MB it should upload OK.

    After some thought i decided to just reformat and reinstall windows. since, as in my OP the update error was occurring after some sectors were repaired i thought that a fresh install would be better anyway.
    Indeed it solved the problem, all updates installed without issue.
