Cannot access user accounts after months of "not genuine" windows

    Hi,

    This is my first post...

I bought a PC from a website years ago, Cube24/7, in a bit of a rush. The website in retrospect was a bit dodgy, and based on other reviews of the site, I am lucky I got something for my money at all!

It was stated to have Windows 7 on it - which turned out to be not true. After spending my cash on a PC, I then did not want to fork out for an OS (as it did not have a default one) so, alas, I used a copy of a friend’s.

It worked fine initially, but then I was greeted with the familiar message to many of “This copy of windows is not genuine”. At first I thought I would just ignore it, but eventually went down the route of getting a product key online. This worked fine for a while, but then required me to do it every couple of weeks...

NOW this has finally caught up with me, and I cannot access my user accounts. It comes up with an error message relating to user profiles being unavailable. I have tried many things, such as going on as a guest (which works fine) and doing a system clock back or system restore, but when it asks for the administrator’s password, I get the same error relating to user accounts.

Ultimately, I am looking for any way to restore the system so that I can access my user accounts, as I now do not really want to buy Windows 7 for the PC, if the error still occurs.

Any help would be appreciated and just contact me for queries.

    Thanks

    Isaac

    Hello Isaac,

You're just going to simply need to purchase a legal copy of Windows, and do a clean install an activate.

Your current problems have nothing to do with the activation status of Windows - they are caused by other problems.
As Brink says, your best option is to purchase a legal license for Windows, and clean install that.

Hate to question, and apparently i'm not as computer savvy as i thought, what will a clean install do? Will this stop the issues I am having with user account sign ins? Thanks!

    Hi,

Do you know of any way I can get the information from my harddrive without psysically removing it from the computer?

    Thanks

    That's the price of piracy.
