using a different product id then that came on the install dvd

My brother has a lap top and it's recovery partition is gone it has windows 7 premium 32bit I don't know if it came with sp1 on it originally or not but I have a windows 7 32bit install dvd without sp1 I won't to know if I can use the product id on his lap top with my install dvd the product id that the dvd came with is all ready in use on my desk top and if his lap top came with sp1 and my install desk being pre-sp1 will that keep it from excepting the product id that's on the bottom of his lap top

    Welcome to the Seven Forums

Use this tutorial it has a link to the .ISO for SP1 you can burn to DVD or USB. Then use the COA key from the laptop.

so your saying that I should create a new oem dvd with sp1 on it and not us the old oem dvd that I have. my internet is really slow if my pre-sp1 dvd will work I would rather us that and just upgrade to sp1 although I should probably do it your way because it will work the best might not be faster though

Is your OEM from Microsoft or from a manufacturer(Dell,HP,etc.) if Microsoft then you can use yours. It will time time for all the updates before you get to the SP1 update then more updates after that.

So long as you use a disk (or an ISO file made into a disk) for the same version and edition of Windows as is stated on the computer's COA sticker - with the Key that should be on that sticker - then everything should be fine.

You may need to use telephone activation to get it activated.
