IE10 installation on Win7x64 fails, error 0x80070643

I am able to install all curent updates - including .NET packages - except for either IE10 or IE11. It's a homebuilt box. Checked for rootkits/infections, all clean. Running sfc /scannow tells me that there is a reboot pending and that I should try running it again after the system is restarted. Same happens with safe mode and running a bootable diagnostics CD I made on another system using MsDART (running it from command prompt). Using the built-in sfc (part of the MsDART's GUI) tells me there are no errors with the OS.

Suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I see that some of you were able to assist another users whose nodes had similar problems.

I was able to resolve the issue myself.
Booting the unit off a 64-bit copy of MsDART (Win7), I have removed the wbemsvc.dll located in “C:\Windows\System32\wbem” and replaced the whole “Windows\winsxs\wow64_microsoft-windows-wmi-core_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_21ceb2d66a98ec2f” folder with a copy of another one, taken from a working system. Rebooted in the safe mode, no problem. Rebooted again, logged on, launched the IE11 package I downloaded onto the desktop, was able to install the browser (at one point I was told that explorer.exe needs to be terminated only to be executed again later) without any problems. Restarted again, ran SFC /SCANNOAW, was told that there were errors but the scan was able to correct them all.

System is happy again.
