Build 7601 Windows is not genuine

    Hi
My laptop did an automatic update and afterwards I had a black desktop and the above message. My Windows is genuine, came preinstalled on the laptop which I have had for 6 years.
I ran Belarc on the advice of a friend to find the product key and tried to revalidate but got the following
A problem occured when Windows tried to activate 0x80070426 (The service has not been started)

What can I do now ? Any help greatly received

    Thank you

The question is - which service?

The usual suspect here would be the SPPSVC - but that would normally produce a different error message.

I suspect that this is caused by the WMI service (WinMgmt)
    we'll check both...

Please open an Elevated Command prompt, and run the following commands..

    SC QC WINMGMT
    SC QC SPPSVC
    SC QUERYEX WINMGMT
    SC QUERYEX SPPSVC
    NET START WINMGMT
    NET START SPPSVC

    post the results...

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.
