just out of curiousity sake I typed slmgr from the command prompt.. and THAT gets the no program associated error message.
I HAVE the geniune disk and prod key etc...etc... but can't seem to get far enough to use it.
I built this thing... but not all that hot with software... so
no way to repair short of a complete reinstall? (heads will roll here if that's the case)

    thanks..

A bit of an oddity that one! - we don't see it often enough to recognise any cause, and even the fix is uncertain...

    Try this first...

    Close all openwindows.

Open an ElevatedCommand Prompt window, and type the following command

    wusa /uninstall /kb:971033

    and hit the Enterkey

Accept thewarnings/confirmations, and wait for it to complete

copy and paste theoutput (if any) from the command prompt window to a reply here,

    Reboot

    reinstall the updatefrom http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033

    Reboot

run another MGADiagreport, and post it.

I'll do those things... but I should tell you I ALREADY used the windows update "update history" typed that k9** found it and used the uninstall from that screen to remove it. this mgadiag report was made AFTER that was already done.

MGADiag says that the KB971033 update is still installed - mostly.

    Please follow the instructions.

    That's changed things significantly.

The old error has been replaced by
    HealthStatus Bitmask Output:
    Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\slui.exe|slui.exe.mui|COM Registration

which is a lot more common...

To confirm that the problem is what I think it is, please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt window and post the results.

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S
    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

    I've uploaded a file - sluicom64.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive

Pleasedownload and save it to your desktop.

Right-clickon the saved file and select Extract all...

    Saveit to the default location

    Thisshould create a file sluicom64.reg

right-clickon the file, and select Merge

Acceptthe warnings, - you should then get a 'Success' message.

    Closeall windows, and reboot.

Runanother MGADiag report, and post the results.

Now we have details we can cope with :)

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
    net start sppsvc
    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report.

(Note: the Line 'CD %win......\SoftwareProtectionPlatform' is all on one line - it may be broken in the Forum listing)
