Formatted hard drive, reinstalled windows 7, can't activate

    Hi,

I recently had to reinstall Windows Home Premium 64 bit on my Dell XPS 15z. In so doing I formatted the hard drive. Now when I try to activate using my product key, I get error code 0xc004e003. Can anyone tell me why this is happening, and how I can go about activating?

    All the best,
    Leon

edit: For further clarification, I reinstalled Windows 7 using this guide and the Digital River download of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Welcome to the forums, can you tell the experts where you got your product key from ? Did you format the whole drive including the recovery partitions ?

Yes welcome mate and as Joan says where did the media come from if it came from somewhere like EBay then you probably have a lemon if it is a new OEM or retail disk from Microsoft then it could be bad.
If you have the original activation code / key for the original installation you can use this and it should be on the sticker on the machine somewhere.
    See this tiutorial

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 see pic for finding the version you have tied to the board.

Oh forgot that other site you mention is not the official one the one in the tutorial is the only site to download official Windows
