Interesting - the problem is that I'm not certain how it should show up (if at all) anyhow.

I'm tempted to say uninstall Comodo and see what happens - but let me do some research first, as I'd like to find out what gives, here.

From what I can make out in a quick search, the driver should be loading...

    Let's see if it is...
Open an Elevated Command Prompt and run the following commands

    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_CMDERD /S
    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_CMDERD /S
    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_CMDERD /S

    post the results.

If they all come back 'not found' then I'd say that ther'es a problem with Comodo, and it should be uninstalled completely (using any external uninstaller available from their site, as well as the usual uninstaller) - make sure that the Windows firewall is switched back on before reconnecting to the internet!

Eeyup. Or would that be Nnope...

Guess I'm uninstalling COMODO! And after that, then what?

    Thank you.

once it's uninstalled, reboot at least twice - making sure that the Windows Firewall is switched on - and then run MGADiag again and post the new report.

If it's fixed then we've at least identified the problem - and you can decide what to do about Comodo later.

If it's still a problem then at least we've eliminated a possible cause, and can think about where else to look.

Uninstalled COMODO and right away I had sound and my copy of Windows is happy and satisfied.

Turned on my Windows Firewall ... I may have hit "restore defaults" and whether that's the case or not, I can't get online and I don't know how to fix it (I'm posting this from my little Linux netbook).

Here's the new MGADiag results, courtesy of my trusty flash stick:

    Can't get online?
Sounds like it may be a proxy problem...

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    NETSH WINHTTP SHOW PROXY

    What does it report?

    now run

    NETSH WINSOCK RESET

    what happens now?

    Successfully reset the Winsock catalog.
You must restart the computer in order to complete the reset.
I tried that, still can't get online.

(EDIT: Yes, I've checked the physical connections.)

Can you ping your router and/or see other computers on your LAN?
are you seeing the internet at all?
check your Device Manager - change the View options to Show hidden devices. Are any entries flagged with red X's or yellow triangles? If so, uninstall/delete them and reboot.

I don't think we have a LAN set up. I don't see any red X's or yellow triangles in my fully expanded, hidden-devices-showing Device Manager.

This is the result of trying to ping my router (after looking up how to do it):

You don't appear to be connected to anything at all!
I assume you have your computer connected via Ethernet cable to the router?

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    IPCONFIG /ALL

    post the results.

Open Control Panel >Network & Internet > Network Connections
right-click on the Local Area Connection entry
    Select Properties
The following should be present in the Networking 'items' box...

    Client for Microsoft Networks (optional)
    QoS Packet Scheduler
File & Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks (optional)
    Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
    Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Link Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver
    Link Layer Topology Discovery Responder

If any are missing - which ones?
(repeat for any other connection options present)
