Internet Explorer Update Fail - 8 to 10

Can not seem to update Internet Exploder 8 to anything else.
Another annoying effect is that clicking a link in Outlook for example only opens to the home page

I've run the System Update Readiness Tool

sfc /scannow had no errors

Windows Update Code Error 9C59

The CBS Logs.zip is attached

NOTE: I do not want to use a different browser as I have a specific site which insists I use IE 9+

Thanks for your help

You appear to have multiple AVs installed - I can see signs of AVG and BitDefender present.

What is the current AV? what other AV's have EVER been installed on this machine?

Please upload the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log and C:\Windows\IE9_Main.log (and IE10_Main/IE11_MAin log) files

Thank you for the reply. We are using Bitdefender. AVG is not installed I have verified that by using "Revo Uninstaller" sto show me the packages which are installed

AVG was installed in the past but was removed using Revo.

I do have the AVG SafeGuard Toolbar installed.

You need to run the AVG Remover tool to get rid of the dregs - you can, if you want, reinstall the SafeGuard Toolbar later (after we get IE upgraded)...#

Download the AVG Remover from here
http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities
Follow the instructions for running it, and then reboot the machine (whether it asks for it or not, and whether the program rebooted already or not).

After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

NETSH WINSOCK RESET

You'll be advised to reboot - do so.

Once you have AVG out fully, try installing IE11 - from here...
Download Internet Explorer 11 (Offline installer) - Internet Explorer make sure that you get the one for your base OS language, and the 32-bit/x86 version.

Thank you for the replies.

I followed your steps and got the first two complete.

upon rebooting the second time and launched the IE 11 standalone installation

It seemed to complete up until the last step. Wherein it failed. "Internet Explorer did not finish installing"
"For more information, see the IE Troubleshooter.... etc.."

I have attached the IE update log

I think the hangup is caused by not recognising that KB2834140 is installed - which is a pre-requisite for IE11.

Please uninstall the update (if it's installed) using this procedure

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

WUSA /uninstall /KB:2834140

If you get an error message - what is the exact message?

You should get the uninstaller started - accept the offer to uninstall, and reboot on completion
Then download and run the installer for it from here...
Download Update for Windows 7 (KB2834140) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Once complete, and if no errors, reboot and attempt to install IE11 again.

Uninstalled; rebooted, re-installed; rebooted.
Attempted the IE installation again and the same symptom occurred.
It went almost to the end and then failed with the same error message as before:

I'm sure that we have limited time today because the match is about to play. The End User, Peter is really appreciative of your efforts so far and will buy you a pint next time he's in Wales. He was there last year walking Llangolen Canal.

I'm always ready to accept a pint

The error in the IE log still shows the same problem..
Code:
00:08.955: INFO:    Version Check for (KB2834140) of C:\Windows\System32\d3d11.dll: 6.1.7601.17514 >= 6.2.9200.16570 (False)
very strange, because the installed version from KB2834140 should be 7.1.7601.18142 at least.

Please run the following command...

DIR C:\Windows\d3d11.dll /S

post the results.
