Failed to install updates: Error Code 80070308

    Good Afternoon,

I am also having problems installing updates with the error code 80070308.

I have spent this afternoon reading the other posts and following the Windows Update Posting Instructions thread so hopefully I've gathered has much info as I can.

I downloaded and ran the System Update Readiness Tool. Once the installation was complete I tried to reinstall the updates. This resulted in the successful installation of: Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) but the failed installation of the other 9 updates as before.

    Attachment 325390

And I received the following error code.

    Attachment 325391

I then carried out the sfc/scannow which all came back OK.

    Attachment 325392

I have saved the logs as a zip file but its too big for me to upload (12.5MB)? Any suggestions?

I hope I have not missed anything out. But please bear with me if I have.

    Any help/advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Kerry

This is becoming a common problem with the latest batch of updates - MS are looking into it (we are led to understand)
I'll add this thread to the action-list for our contact.

    Many Thanks NoelDP,

I did see the other threads but thought that the more information you have the better.

I'll hang tight and wait for those who know more than I do. It is much appreciated.

Please open an elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command,

    REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS
    REG QUERY HKLM\COMPONENTS

    post the results.

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Yep - that's the fix I was going to propose, after checking its relevance with the output I requested

    Well done, and good luck.
