How do I make sure updates do not install upon shutdown?

Hi All,

I recently recovered my computer from the problem (BSOD on startup) that was affecting Dell machines encrypted with DDPE. The problem occurred after installing the latest Windows Update patch (July 8, 2014). The IT staff fixed the problem, appearing to have rolled back the updates. Now, however, when I want to shut down my computer, the message that shows up when I hover over the "Shut Down" button says that the updates (presumably the ones that were just rolled back) will automatically install. I've already turned off automatic updates myself (this wasn't done by the IT staff), but the Shut Down button still shows that updates will automatically install. How do I shut down my computer while ensuring that the updates don't install?

Thanks so much! Interesting to note that when I tried Option 2 (using the Local Group Policy Editor), it didn't work. But Option 1 worked. Thanks again.

Ah, I see, that makes sense. I was wondering if I had to do something with the "Computer Configuration" policy. Thank you for your explanation.
