Failed Updates on Brand New Laptop

I recently set up two new HP ProBook 450 G1's for my office. I noticed on both of them--totally fresh, no software or hardware installed, fresh out of the box--that many Windows updates failed. Some were successful, but when you look at the update history, so many fail. Why is this? I've seen this before on other computers too.

Both computers running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit.

I should add too that I installed the updates at Shutdown, thinking that would be better than installing them while in Windows. I've had the error before that Windows can't update certain files while it's running, and that caused failed updates. So I thought I could avert that by doing the updates at shutdown, but that didn't work either.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)
