    Windows Updates not installing at scheduled time


    Hello,

    We are trying to setup a windows update policy for our environment. We have tried to configure Windows Update to install at a scheduled time through both group policy and through registry settings. It seems like even though it is set to install at 3:00 PM Every day, for instance, it does not install anything even though there seems to be updates available. A few days later we get the reboot prompt saying windows updates have been installed. Are there any other settings that need to be changed in order for the updates to install at the specified time and then afterwards be prompted with a reboot?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I'd have thought that Group Policy should override any client registry settings anyhow - so concentrate on that aspect.
    I am NOT an expert in GP - so I'll have to see if I can find someone who knows what they are talking about

    Don't run away - but you may want to consider asking in the TechNet forums where GP experts reside... Technet forums - Windows 7 Installation, Setup, and Deployment

Hi people Does the latest version of MSE allow for a manual update schedule to be created by the user or is it still limited to the Windows auto-update facility, which may also download & install unwanted MS apps along with the virus signatures? Cheers. Ich.
Environment:win 7 beta version Repro Steps: 1)Open up disk defragemneter 2)Configure scheduling for a time on daily basis(may be next complete hour as minutes can not be scheduled) 3)Keep disk defragmenter opened till we pass over the schedule time and the fragmentation is completed....
