Fail to install any updates

Any update that I have installed sucessfully downloads and then reboots. Once it's starting up again, the machine prepares to configure the updates. After a few minutes the updates fail and I get the message "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer".

I have ran SURT, and I ran sfc /scannow and both confirmed that the problem was fixed but when i try to reapply the updates they haven't.

I have also ran the machine with only windows services running and then installed the updates which yielded the same results.

Here is a copy of the CBS.zip

The CBS data is very interesting - what little I can read of it (which doesn't include the SFC scan)
The problem is that all the data I want to see appears to be in the larger of the CBSPersist files - some of which are well over 200MB uncompressed! My software can't handle files that large.

Please run another SFC /SCANNOW and post the new CBS.log file (The file only - compressed first please) and I'll take another look at that.

You said that you installed new updates not able to configure or install it properly. Then clear your temporary files from the pc or remove internet as well as users caches or cookies. After that reboot your pc and you can also use Ccleaners or disk cleaner software to remove cache from your system

Odd. I definitly ran the sfc scannow. Anyways here's just the CBS.log in a zip

Thanks for taking the time to look at this for me.

@rachelle, I ran ccleaner and the problem continues to exist

The SFC scan is clear of errors, as is the background data in that log.
I'll take another look at the original data after work today

I would highly recommend doing no more scans with 3rd party programs unless Noel asks you to. Some will remove the information that Noel is needing so he can guide you.

I will go back to watching.

Yeah, hindsight, after looking at rachelle's posts that was probably pretty stupid of me. Also running ccleaner sounds like it would have nothing to do with win7's updating operations.

As far as I can tell, there is some major corruption in the registry - and I have no idea how to start fixing it.

Your best option is going to be a repair install - but I wouldn't be at all surprised it that were to fail.

One of the smallest CBSPersist logs has 809 error messages in it - generated in 15 minutes. The whole 159MB of log data was generated in just 42 minutes!

See here for instructions for a Repair Install. - Repair Install
