    Win7 product key disappeared

I have a 2 yr old HP with Win7 Home Premium SP1 I bought from retail store with OEM software installed. All of a sudden, I am now getting the messages that my Windows o/s needs to be validated. Of course, the OEM CDs I got with the system are missing. I used Belarc Advisor to find the Windows Product Key, but when I try to reneter it on the Windows Activation screen, I get error message:

    "Code: 0xC004C008

The activation server determined that the specified product key could not be used".

So, do I need to contact Microsoft maybe or ??? I get messages that the 30-day period has expired, but I can still (for now) use the computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

    Steve

btw - I did need to do a lot of cleanup tasks on it after that started. I ran a full MalwareBytes scan, deleted some stupid web browser toolbars and other general cleanup tasks. There are several free games that have been installed, so I'm guessing one of them had some nasties in it that caused the problem.

    Please perform the following:

    1. Download and save this tool to your desktop:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

    2. Run the tool, and then click Copy - ignore any errors if they appear

    3. Use CTRL+V to paste the unedited results of the tool here in your next reply

Yeah. I have to remote into the system in question and they are away for the day. Hope to have that info up tomorrow. All I had was a few screen prints from they system info that are not as detailed as the MS Diagnostic Tool output.

The installed Key will almost certainly be the OEM_SLP Key - which can't be activated over the internet, as it's designed to self-activate every boot given the right circumstances. If the system breaks down then the Key from the COA sticker on the machine's case must be used instead.

Once we see the MGADiag report, we'll be able to say what part of the system has broken down, and may be able to fix it without using the COA Key (which may not work anyhow if there are serious problems)
