    Microsoft Silverlight Update KB2977218

This update was offered by Windows Updates this week - do I need it?

I have two machines. On my gaming rig Silverlight updates were previously hidden so I don't get offered them now, whereas on my work machine (basically used for browsing, Office 2010 and Adobe reader, I don't do any programming) I didn't hide a previous Silverlight update (can't remember why), so the new update is on offer. I see it provides a new version of Silverlight.

I prefer not to risk updates that I don't need, so I'd be grateful for any thoughts on this.

Well,, Silverlight is a powerful development tool for creating engaging, interactive user experiences for Web and mobile applications. Silverlight is a free plug-in, powered by the .NET framework and compatible with multiple browsers, devices and operating systems, bringing a new level of interactivity wherever the Web works.

    I keep mine updated ..

However.. do you use it or not is the Question : see here : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/silv.../bb187358.aspx

    Hi there

If you use SKY GO, NETFLIX or BT Sport (UK subscribers to these services) or some other online streaming services TAKE A BACKUP FIRST as a new update of Silverlight might cause these applications to fail. It's particularly annoying with SKY GO as you are only allowed a very limited number of changes per month and a re-install of Windows -- even on the same machine will count as a change. An IMAGE restore works OK though.

So I'd back the system up and THEN update Silverlight --if your streaming services fail then simply restore the old image.

    Cheers

Thanks guys. I'm not aware that I use Silverlight so there's probably no point in updating it.
