    Windows update cleanup

Is it safe to use the Windows 7 Windows update cleanup ?

It shows that I have over 5 GB of space that could be cleaned up. I can't remember where I read it but someone said it could take around an hour to clean up.

Just wondering if it is a safe thing to do.

    thank you

I have used it.. but had no where near that much data to be cleaned .. Look at what it finds to clean up as that seems like alot but may in fact be useless data not needed .

The first time I ran it, Windows Cleanup took only a few minutes as I recall and cleaned over 12GB on a SSD. I suspect it would depend on your hardware. (CPU, C: drive type) If it takes an hour, something is wrong. Run SFC /scannow (or /verifyonly) from an elevated command prompt before running cleanup just to make sure your system files are not corrupt.

    Hello Bulajap,

It shouldn't take very long at all to do. Usually only a few minutes at most. :)
