Windows Update fails with error 9C59 on IE11

    WIndows Update - again :-(
WIndows 7 Ultimate X64 on HP Envy DV6!!. Ive been installing Win 7 for the last couple of days (!). Nearly at the end with all updates OK except IE11

Windows update dies with error 9C59 so I tried a standalone install of IE11.
The IE11 Log all looks OK except
00:04.384: WARNING: Checking version for C:\Windows\System32\api-ms-win-downlevel-user32-l1-1-0.dll. The file does not exist.
I looked and a file with that name is present in the directory
04:28.821: ERROR: SQM Upload failed while uploading "C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\SQM\iesqmdata_setup0.sqm" with error: 2147500036

I ran SFC /scannow and it reported no errors
I've tried the SURT but SUR.log reports no errors

I ran windows update again (same result) for the CBS log (Attachment 331674) It reports a number of KBs missing but when I try to install them windows says they are already installed. COnfused, I give up!!

I would prefer to have a clean install before putting an image in the bank so are there any suggestions as to what I can to to get IE to install.

Thanks in advanceploCBS file Ive give up. Best I managed was 30% before

PS after a lot of attempts at uploading the CBS file. Best I managed was 30% of a 6MB zip! Sorry.

    That Windowsupdate.log ends at 00:12 on 1st Sept ?

The IE11_Main.log possibly indicates this as the critical error...
    Code:
    07:03.200: INFO: Process 'C:\Windows\SysNative\dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\Windows\TEMP\IE1733C.tmp\IE11-neutral.Downloaded.cab /quiet /norestart' exited with exit code 0x800F081E (-2146498530)
07:03.200: ERROR: Neutral package installation failed (exit code = 0x800f081e (2148468766)).
This error is a 'not applicable to this installation' one - but doesn't indicate why.

Please zip the CBS.log file (only) and upload it - also the CheckSUR.log file.

Hmm - there's no significant errors in the CBS.log, and obviously nothing in the CheckSUR log.

Is KB2834140 installed? If so, uninstall it, reboot, and then reinstall it using the standalone download. If not, then install it using the standalone.
Download Update for Windows 7 (KB2834140) from Official Microsoft Download Center

reboot twice, then attempt installation of IE11 again - post the new IE11_Main.log file.

KB 2838140 was installed. (BTW, is there an easy way of finding a windows update other than searching by eye through the list which does not even seem to be sorted!)

So rebooted installed etc etc but to no avail. Log attached (Attachment 331916). Same problems on Neural package installation.

FYI Looks from Windows updates as if IE10 installation failed as well.. I have IE 8 installed - twice! IE 8 and IE 8 64 bit. Thought - Google says error 0x800f081e is package not applicble. Is the presence of two IE8s (32 and 64 bit) confusing the install process?

Yep - use the Search option, top right. Just input the KB number you want

    Here's the problem...
    Code:
    00:03.510: INFO:    Version Check for (KB2834140) of C:\Windows\System32\d3d11.dll: 6.1.7601.17514 >= 6.2.9200.16570 (False)
Windows (or the installer) is convinced that the version of the file is the wrong one - the version is supposed to be 6.2.9200.16570 once 2834140 is installed.

The question is - why is this happening?
(I have no idea at the moment - I'll have to think about it)

There are always 2 versions of IE8 installed in a 64-bit system - once you get to IE10, then there's only the 64-bit wrapper around a 32-bit executable... I think.

Sometimes this type of problem is cured by installing IE9, updating it, then installing IE10 and updating it, before attempting to install IE11 - but I have no idea whether that would work here

Why dont I just download that dll version and overwrite the current one? Or is that likely to make things worse :-(

It seems I have the required dll its just ion the wrong place.
    In all I have
    Code:
    6.2.9200.16570 size 1505280 in C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-directx-direct3d11_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.22313_none_e3b8b50ecff381db
     and in C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-directx-direct3d11_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.18142_none_e30da64fb6ef1f66
    6.1.7601.17514 size 522752 in C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-directx-direct3d11_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_f1bfb8c22bee306d
    and in C:\Windows\SysWOW64
    6.2.9200.16570 size 1887232 in C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-directx-direct3d11_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.22313_none_3fd750928850f311
    and in C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-directx-direct3d11_31bf3856ad3.1.7601.18142_none_3f2c41d36f4c909c
    6.1.7601.17514 size 787968 in C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-directx-direct3d11_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_4dde5445e44ba1a3
    and in C:\Windows\System32
so can I get away with just copying the correct 6.2.9200.16570 version to system32 and sysWOW64?
