Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

    C:\windows\system32>

but still unable to install the update & received same error message.

The only thing I can think of is to try running the update from the standalone installer and see if that works...

OK - post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file and I'll see if I can make any sense out of it - but I think you may be looking at a repair install.

The log shows a couple of errors...

    Code:

2014-09-14 08:11:42:163 428 b3c Setup WARNING: SelfUpdate is in an error state
    2014-09-14 08:50:42:009 1672 6e0 Misc WARNING: Failed SRSetRestorePoint call with win32 error 8007043C
    2014-09-14 08:57:01:482 4332 420 Setup WARNING: Install of setup package "c:\fcdadca509eb66094556888936\WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-TopLevel.cab" failed, error = 0x80070002
This looks to me like you were attempting to install the update in Safe Mode? - maybe one of the critical services isn't running...

Please download the Farbar Service Scanner from

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-service-scanner/

Right-click on the saved file and select 'Run as Administrator', and tick all the options, then click on the Scan button - copy and paste the report to your response.

    That looks normal.

There seem to be a number of these errors cropping up this week - but I haven't got a handle on them as yet.
Your quickest option for a solution is almost certainly a repair install.
I'm certainly game for continuing to work on a manual fix - but it could be long, slow, and frustrating!

    Let me know?
