    Windows update error 80073712

    Hello,

I am having trouble with Windows Update on my computer. One update refuses to be installed. Error code is 80073712 (ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT).

I've downloaded and executed checkSUR tool and the generated log file is attached. Looks like I have a corrupted manifest file. Anyone knows how to fix it?

    Thank you,

    Joćo Pedro

    Code:
    Unavailable repair files:
     winsxs\manifests\x86_microsoft-windows-ncrypt-dll_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.22705_none_607b179c68f2dba6.manifest
I'll post a fix later for you.

    I've uploaded a file - jpmaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder jpmaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folders inside it (Manifests)

Copy the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

    Hi NoelDP,

It worked perfectly as you can see by the attached logs.

Windows Update now runs without any errors.

Out of curiosity: what causes these winsxs files to get corruped like this?

Thank you very much for your help!

    Without looking at the logs...
This can happem because of a transient RAM fault or even a cosmic ray!
Or t could be a disk problem or malware ....
Glad it seems to be sorted!
