Had the same problem after restoring my computer to factory state Windows 7 Home Premium. Worked for several days to get it fixed, to no avail until today. My Windows Update Agent was v7.6.7600.320 and it just ran on with no results, once for a full 24 hours. I tried the DNS changes, the Fix-It download, and the KB3083710 and KB3102810 fixes, but none resolved the issue. UNTIL I downloaded KB3138612 that installed the very latest version of the Windows Updater v7.6.7601.19161 and now I am working smoothly through several hundred updates. The solution is mentioned in more detail elsewhere in this forum, but it is a simple fix. Thank you, SevenForum contributors!!!
UPDATE: This fix worked until I installed "important" windows updates from April 12, then problems started all over again. Having to roll back to restore point. Even the Windows stand alone updater will not work now.
