That's probably going to be the easiest solution - but do SFC and CheckSUR scans before attempting any updates - post if they show problems and we'll try and deal with them before it gets worse.

well, i tried and unfortunately the issue is still there. it looks like the last successful update was august 1 when windows update agent was installed.

Attachment 338408

after restoring windows i ran the sfc /scannow and it completed. i then ran the checksur (KB947821). i still got the same error when running windows update.

now when i try the sfc /scannow, i get this again:

here is the new log and the link to the components file:

if there's nothing that can be done i guess i'll have to completely reinstall windows.

let me know, thanks.

OK - I think I've corrected the registry corruptions that we know about....

I've uploaded a file - spsab.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it to your desktop.
Right-click on the file and select Extract All, and save to the default destination (which should be a folder on the desktop)

Create a new System Restore point

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands.

Code:
IF EXIST C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS DEL C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS\COMPONENTS.OLD1

REN C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS COMPONENTS.OLD1

COPY %userprofile%\desktop\wfire\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config

.
If you get an error with either command, STOP THERE - do not reboot! - post for instructions (if the REN command fails, try again while in Safe Mode.

Assuming both commands go OK, reboot, and run another CheckSUR scan - post the new CheckSUR.log file.

Sorry - my fault

somewhere a line-break got lost!

I've corrected it now. Please try again

(re-edited after I fixed what was *really* the problem!)
