How to go to IE10 from IE11 if it was never installed

For the record ... that cat is not on my Win8 with IE 11 system either.

I'm still of the opinion that we skipped a step in the controlled rollback, update IE cycle by not installing IE9 and by installing the optional platform update. The action plan I put in place was roll back to IE8, update to IE 9 using the offline installer, Update to IE 10 using the offline installer. Skipping the platform update update completely.

I understand the platform update is a pre-req of IE 10, but I believe MS rolled it into the IE 10 install.

Noel is driving the bus and he might have something up his sleeve or in his bag of tricks.

Don't change gears at this point - follow only one path to exhaustion.

I'll wait until Noel either figures out a way to patch the side-by-side object or gives up.

I based everything I posted on my experiences with IE10 and IE 11 when the first came out. IE10 had some issues on my machine so I upgraded to IE11. Other issues in IE11 made me roll back to IE8, the base at the time, then upgrade to IE9 and wait for IE10/IE11 to settle down. Other members did not have the same issues as I experienced on my machine ... soooo it's a crap shoot.

When I felt enough time had passed (a few moths) I decided to try IE10 again. I've done this so many times, I forget if I installed the optional pre-req platform update first or experimented letting IE 10 figure out what it needed. What I do recall is that IE 10 went and got what was needed (or it was packaged in the IE10 install). After a month with IE10, I ventured up to IE11 and have been there without major issue ever since.

There was some discussion in a thread about whether the member needed to incrementally go from IE8 to IE9, IE10, IE11, and there was no definitive answer - although it was suggested to do the incremental steps.

All that being said ... yes I think the optional platform update is getting in the way.

Since Noel has not yet provided a patch, you can wait for him to get a breather (you might PM him to refresh his memory)

If Noel spent time researching the issue and is building or has built a patch, it would be best to wait for him. See if he can spare some cycles before taking the 2nd option (restarting from post #9).

I'm still around - it's been a crazy few weeks at work

The mum and cat files we were talking about and hunting for were actually from IE9, not 10/11!

Which version of IE is currently installed? IE8?

If so, then try installing IE9 from the full install download...
Download Internet Explorer 9 (Offline installer) - Microsoft Windows

when complete, (or if a higher version is installed) post the following files...
C:\Windows\...
IE9_Main.log
IE10_Main.log
IE11_Main.log

If you need a fresh download: IE9 x64 - offline installer

It's weird - if you drill down for IE downloads, neither IE9 or IE10 are offered in an obvious manner.

Sorry - I'm very time-constrained at present

Possibly the way to go is to uninstall all updated IE variants manually using the packages and DISM - which will also take care of the IE updates - and then see what SFC and CheckSUR have to say and plan accordingly.

However, I am uncertain how long that would take - and you've already spent too long waiting for a fix, for my liking.
You may be best off to think about a repair install, which usually sorts this type of thing out pretty well - but can get confused if you've taken user folders of their default positions. (I can't remember if I asked about that or not - and don't have time at the moment to refresh myself on 60-odd posts )

No - it's possible to force-uninstall IE of any version other than the original (IE8) using DISM - doing do also uninstalls (at least in theory) any IE-related updates for that version.
It's a fairly simple command-line instruction - and usually gets things right.

As far as being BootCamp is concerned, I really have no knowledge of that (the last time I touched an Apple machine was back in 2006(?) - when I installed a Windows XP VM in my brother's laptop). and would have to ask around.
