    Windows update

Why is that my Windows 7 64 bit installation often prompts me to configure Windows update? It is configured and I receive updates.

Do you run a registry 'cleaner'? If so, I suggest that you stop doing so.
Have you checked your system for malware?

I have used a registry cleaner and have scanned the system for malware. I know that a registry cleaner is'nt the best thing to use but now it's to late.

Which registry cleaner did you use? some are worse than others, and may need a repair install to fix.

That's safe enough on default settings - but can be dangerous if tweaked.

I'll review the data again later and get back to you.

Ccleaner is the only one I use and since I started this thread I have not been prompted for configuration of the Windows update. Strange.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

PLease also upload the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file

Since my last post there has not been any prompts about configuring Windows Update. I don't think it is an issue any more. Thanks for your advice about not using a reg cleaner.
