Dell laptop prinstalled with W7 HomeP 64 bit claims W7 is not genuine!

I've received a Dell laptop (Inspiron 1545) from a client. It is preinstalled with Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit. I get a message "Windows 7 build 7601 .. not genuine" It fails online activation. Yet the MGA diagnostic shows the key is the same as the sticker.

Hello and welcome whistler have you tried contacting Microsoft re this problem they are usually helpful over the phone.
When I was over there a while ago my brother had bought a DVD supposedly an old Dell one from EBay and it kept coming up as that. My brother was at his wits end when I got there but a call to Microsoft and they gave me a code for this version maybe if you explain to them the problem they will sort it for you.

Thanks for the reply; however, following advice on some posts here I tried the windows validation site
Genuine Microsoft Software which led me to download and run an app. The App reported "windows validation detected and repaired an activation exploit designed to prevent built-in Windows licensing components from operating properly."
I then followed the advice on the "troubleshoot" tab, for online activation. Typed the key in fresh and BINGO - problem solved.

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
