Windows 7 Updates are failing and can't install software

    Hi,

My computer continually freezes when trying to install update or other software.

I have run AVG Anti Virus and Malawarebytes Anti-Malware.

These have all come up clear.

I ran SURI as per the post instructions and it have not finished after 12 hours.

I ran scannow and got a "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"

No error but it is freezing on an update KB890830.

Did CheckSUR not produce any log file at all? - there's no CheckSUR.log file in your upload.

Please post the log if there is one at all.

The only log file was the CBS log included in the ZIP file. I ran it again last night to check and got another CBS.log, which I have attached.

    Let's try this again...

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Sorry Noel - I am completely confused.

    The post states:
Step 1 - run SURT, as stated in the original post. This ran for 12 hours and never finished.
Step 2 - run SFC scan, as stated in the original post this did not find any errors. And returned the message:
"Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"
Step 3 - Windows Update Error. As stated in original message not error listed.
Step 4 - Log Collection. I zipped the logs as per instructions and attached to the original post.
Step 5 - Start a new thread, I though this was a new thread.

The CheckSur file have the following information:

    =================================
    Checking System Update Readiness.
    Binary Version 6.1.7601.22471
    Package Version 26.0
    2014-11-26 12:43

    Checking Windows Servicing Packages

    Checking Package Manifests and Catalogs

    Checking Package Watchlist

    Checking Component Watchlist

    Checking Packages

    Checking Component Store

    Summary:
    Seconds executed: 243
    No errors detected

So I am a little unsure in following the instruction what I missed, I have gone back to the instruction as per your last message and am at a loss on where to go next.

    Thanks

That Checksur result shows that it ran successfully - today, at least.
That leaves me almost as confused as you

Please upload the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file - hopefully it will have a little more helpful data.

There are a number of problems showing there - not just the one - and it looks to me as if a full reset of Windows Update is required.

Let's start with the automated fix from MS...
How do I reset Windows Update components?
ignore the popover that may appear on the page - get rid of it, and then download the reset tool for Windows 7.

Run it, and note the results, then reboot and do a Check for Updates.
    What happens?
Attempt to install ONLY the oldest found update.
    What happens?
If it installs OK, try the rest - if not, then post the new Windowsupdate.log file aand we'll see if anything has changed.

    Hi Noel,

I really appreciate your help, this is driving me nuts.

The link in your message - returns a page not found.

I found this Windows Update - Reset and used method 1.

I tried to download the oldest update - KB2858725.

It hung. I have attached the Windowlogs

It looks as if the data collector hadn't finished saving the log before you uploaded - please try uploading another copy of the file.
the .NETupdates are possibly not the bet ones to attempt a test with anyhow, try installing KB2847077 instead before uploading the new copy of the windowsupdate.log file.
