Windows will not update, stoping other programs from updating

    HP Laptop running windows 7 - 64
Windows will not check for updates or run updates.
When I attempt to make windows check for updates I get error - windows update can not currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart.
I have restarted the computer more times than I can count.
I tried to download a SURT. Says it downloaded but then I get error - Installer encountered an error: 0x80070424 The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
I tried to print a Log Collection I get a Error: File not found or no read permission.
However I was able to run a SFC and it came back - Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrityviolations.

I have been reading online forums and messing with this for 3 weeks.
This is a work computer and I need to install updates for work but they say the updates will not run until Windows is updated.

This looks like a severe infestation from malware.

Please downloadand install Malwarebytes Anti-malware(free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/- UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM Premium' at the end of the installation- and update it, then run a fullscan in your main account, and Quickscans in any other user accounts.

    Quarantineeverything it finds

    Noel is very busy.
Now you know wht Noel recommended Malwarebytes.

Did you Quarantine everything or Remove everything?

This would be the next step if it was my computer.

Change Rootkits to Enable and run the test again.

When in Malwarebytes go to Scan at the top and then select custom scan.
While you are in custom scan you will see this. Add/Put a check mark in rootkets. Leave the other things checked like the picture.

Then do another scan. This will take longer so just put on a pot of coffee and wait
until it's done and post results.

Yes I have Quarantined, removed and re-started the computer.
Running another scan now with Tootkits checked.

Thanks so much for the help! Had no idea this computer was this messed up. I'm the primary day time user. Will find out what the evening shift is up to!

In my experience the type of errors seen here are accompanied by problems with scheduled tasks.
Bear- can you cope with that?

Keep in mind I'm not here to take Noels place because he is the expert.
Noel is very busy and I know he would want to make sure you are clean.
I have Malwarebytes Premium on 3 system and am very failure with it. The time it takes depends on the size of the drive and what is installed on it.
    Enjoy the coffee.
