Some interesting errors in the CBS.log...
Why CheckSUR didn't pick this up, I don't know...Code:2014-11-06 00:08:35, Info CBS Appl: Partial install Status testing, package: Package_for_KB2911501~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.2, partially installed (true/false), 0 2014-11-06 00:08:35, Info CBS Session: 30407039_3085057987 initialized by client WindowsUpdateAgent. 2014-11-06 00:08:35, Info CBS Invalid enum string [HRESULT = 0x800f080d - CBS_E_MANIFEST_INVALID_ITEM] 2014-11-06 00:08:35, Info CBS illegal version scope [HRESULT = 0x800f080d - CBS_E_MANIFEST_INVALID_ITEM] 2014-11-06 00:08:35, Info CBS failed to process package [HRESULT = 0x800f080d - CBS_E_MANIFEST_INVALID_ITEM] 2014-11-06 00:08:35, Info CBS Wrong package format [HRESULT = 0x800f080d - CBS_E_MANIFEST_INVALID_ITEM] 2014-11-06 00:08:35, Info CBS Invalid xml format [HRESULT = 0x800f080d - CBS_E_MANIFEST_INVALID_ITEM] 2014-11-06 00:08:35, Info CBS Manifest parsing error at line: 1, context: ="nnnSxS"/><assdmblyIdentity name="Microsoft-Windows-ParentalCon [HRESULT = 0x800f080d - CBS_E_MANIFEST_INVALID_ITEM] 2014-11-06 00:08:35, Info CBS Failed to parse the manifest from the buffer. Please upload the following files so I can take a look...
C:\windows\servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB2911501~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.2.cat
C:\windows\servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB2911501~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.2.mum
.cat and .mum files attached.
Got invalid file types, chaged suffix and zipped.
.mum is .mummy.zip (file 2) and .cat is .catty.zip
Hope this works...
There is also the same .cat and .mum files in C:\windows\servicing\Packages\,
but with sp1 in the name.
First time I've used an AsRock MOBO, and first time for an SSD as the C: drive.
(My specs page has been updated.)
I'm wondering if that might have contributed to all the errors....

They both look fine - apart from the names! - I assume that you only renamed the copies?
The errors I was expecting to see there aren't present - so I assume that they must be in the registry.
I need to have alook at your COMPONENTS registry hive
Please copy theC:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop andthen compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site(preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.
Link to components file:

Earlier today I went to the Microsoft web site and downloaded IE11. When I ran it, it said IE 11 was installed.
It wasn't. It reset IE 9 as if it was the first install.
I also noticed it said IE 64 can not be the default browser.

I haven't forgotten you - just overloaded at present.
I will come back as soon as I can clear the decks a little!
No problem there, either
Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place - Please open an Elevated COmmand prompt and run the following commands...
This will create a folder on your desktop - 'packs' - please compress it and upload it to your reply.Code:MD "%userprofile%\desktop\packs" COPY C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-ParentalControls-Package*.* "%userprofile%\desktop\packs"
