    "Failure configuring Windows updates."

Hey, everyone. I just found this forum while googling trying to find a solution to my problem, and I'm hoping you'll be able to help. I've tried everything I can think of. My laptop tried to update earlier. It froze mid-update, and then I started getting the "Failure configuring, reverting" thing. I was unable to boot in safe mode, and multiple attempts at a system restore (to all available dates) resulted in failure, saying 'failed to extract the file (D:\Windows\servicing\Packages\PACEF9~1.MUM) from the restore point.' If I can't find a solution to this tonight, I'll be taking it into a repair shop in the morning, but I'm really hoping I don't have to do that.

Pleasefollow the WindowsUpdate Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MBcompressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file isbelow the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (theforum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

I'm not sure how I'm supposed to do those things when the computer won't even get past the updates screen to let me log on.

Have you tried startup repair and/or Safe Mode?
