'cleaned the registry'?? Oh dear!
Using what?
ccleaner. I run it about once a quarter on all my pcs for years...no issues.
CCleaner's registry tool is pretty safe - so long as it's left on default settings - hopefully we can ignore it (but a look at the log may be useful?)
Hi Noel,
Once things slowed to a crawl I have not been able to get the log file off the computer. It's now stuck in shutdown. I'll power it down this evening and try to get the cbs.log off.
let's have a look at the Event logs...
Open Event Viewer
click on theWindows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on theApplication entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File'in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file asAppevt.evtx
Repeat for theSystem log
then zip both,and upload them.
Events and CBS log attahed. Last night I tried to install the SURT, after about 8 hours it had an issue (login screen indicated it was reverting back). Normal mode seems to be running...normal today. I'm going to try and capture a MGADiag as well.
The Computer Browser service seems to be having major problems...
Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands...
Post the results.Code:SC QUERYEX BROWSER SC QUERYEX LANMANSERVER SC QUERYEX LANMANWORKSTATION
Here are some instructions to make lifeeasier :)
1) To open anElevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs,Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run asAdministrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run thecommands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on thehighlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at topleft – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the lastcommand, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy theresults... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit...'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to pasteit into your response.
MGADiag was frozen when I got home this evening. There was a message over the "PC Issues" next to the clock stating that Windows needs to be reinstalled and activated.

Hmm - there's two services there that should be started... let's look a little closer at the basic one..
Open an elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command.
SC QC LANMANSERVER
sc qc LANMANSERVER
sc queryex LANMANSERVER
sc qprivs LANMANSERVER
sc qsidtype LANMANSERVER
sc sdshow LANMANSERVER
Post the results.
Well...that's the end of that.
The screen went black and the computer was still running. Shutdown/startup and the screen is still black. Left it on for a while and the onboard repair kit started instead of the OS. I said OK and the screen went dark again.
I've removed the drive and replaced it with an older 2.5" drive I had from a laptop I trashed about 2 years ago. Fires right up and I'm loading Windows. I think the drive just died.
The EB1503 itself it out of warranty by 6 months but the drive should have a 2 year warranty. I'm going to pursue a claim with Seagate and see if I can get a new drive...else I'll probably pick one up on Amazon for $50.
Thank you NoelP for your time and patience...I was hoping this would be a repair. First time I have lost a drive in about 10 years.
