HP G62 Windows 7 Home Basic

I have had this HP G62 laptop for almost four years. It has always had Windows 7 Home Basic on it. I had to format my hard drive a few weeks ago due to viruses corrupting my graphics (OpenGL), so I did this and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Basic.

Before I formatted my hard drive, I used a program to obtain my Product Key for Microsoft Office and I also made a note of the Windows Product Key which was different to the one on the Certificate Of Authenticity on the bottom of the laptop. I downloaded an ISO of Windows 7 (which apparently is legal) and put it onto a flash drive and used it to reinstall Windows. I don't remember entering the Product Key when installing, so cannot confirm this.

I received a message saying that the Windows is not genuine and I must activate it. I tried to do that using the Product Key on the COA and it says that the product key will not work with this edition of Windows. The sticker on the bottom of my laptop says it is for Windows 7 Home Premium, but my laptop came to me with Home Basic.

I also tried the Product Key that I obtained from the program before formatting and this key gives me a message saying "The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license." (Error Code 0xC004F063)

Please could you assist me, here is the MGADiag report.

From the looks of it you did a repair/reinstall using a Retail disk.

If the Key on your machine is for Windows 7 Home Premium - then that is what the machine is licensed for (and why anyone would wish to downgrade it to Home Basic is rather beyond me) - and you need to upgrade to the Home Premium install to get the Key to work. From what I can see of the Spec for the machine, the default is Home Premium.

From where did you purchase this?
